Today, Markus Völter interviewed me for his Software Engineering Radio podcast show. Thus, a couple of months from now my name will be tied to some piece of audio on the internet. Already today, when you use Google’s image search, you can find a picture of me. With audio search some time in the future, you’ll be able to retrieve the aforementioned podcast. That’s in addition to various videos that have been taped of me at conferences and that are readily available for download and searching.
Reportedly, then-Sun’s Scott McNealy said: “Privacy? Get over it.” So now how I look and how I sound is out there, easily retrievable by folks. For a long time, the way I write has been accessible to seekers. What’s next? Free access to my DNA? Maybe some time in the future U.S. immigrations takes DNA samples and is required by law to provide to the public records of who enters and leaves the country.
I guess Scott McNealy is right. I wonder how this will play out.
