The conference I attended in Leipzig, Germany, overlapped with the world-wide gathering of Goth people. Some were quite beautiful, actually, and certainly elaborate, as the photo below shows (courtesy of Wilhelm Schäfer).
A cab driver told me some of their story.
Apparently, for the last 17 years, the Goths have been congregating in Leipzig. It is their main world-wide gathering, the largest of them all. Leipzig has long adjusted to them, and people are generally friendly and helpful.
Some hotels even bring out special bedding! On one registration form, you supposedly could check-mark that you are here for the Goth festival, and low and behold, you would get black and orange bedding rather than the usual dull white stuff.
